Reinforcing corporate values and driving increased employee engagement through an improved rewards and recognition program
A leading business services company improved its employee retention and engagement with the launch of a multi-faceted rewards and recognition program, designed with corporate values and customer satisfaction in mind.
The company’s team is widely varied in demographics. Staff ranges from millennials to baby boomers and encompasses a depth of skills, from associates working in the plant to business development staff. Every employee in the business is customer-facing, and from “hire to retire,” each works to provide the highest level of satisfaction to their clients. The company was experiencing a higher than normal level of voluntary turnover, and a solution was sought to help reinforce corporate values and increase employee engagement.
It was integral to align the business strategy around an empowered, innovative and engaged workforce.
The company conducted an all-employee survey from which key cultural and workplace initiatives were identified. These initiatives were categorized into 26 different groups and shared with all employees. Team members were invited to participate in volunteer committees tasked with identifying improvement initiatives, success metrics and execution tactics related to the 26 areas.At the same time, all employees were encourages to submit ideas for cost-savings and process improvements in their work practices.
Employees who participated in these committees, suggested ideas for improvement, and implemented changes were recognized and rewarded.

This new rewards and recognition program was pre-announced via webinar to managers explaining how the program works and outlining their key roles in the program’s success. The program was launched at an all-associate town hall led by the company’s leadership. In addition, promotional collateral including posters and handouts were distributed to create an environment of high visibility.
Following the program launch, managers began to identify associates who should be recognized for going above and beyond during the weekly manager huddles. These recognitions are circulated to all employees through emails from senior leadership and posted on employee boards for all to see.
